Island, River Gambia, marked 'Pd' with Charing Cross despatch
datestamp (3/7/43), rate '8' and with a 'Paid Ship Letter / London'
dated oval also in red. Both have imperfections, although very

at Naval headquaters, from Captain Smith reads: "Received birds
from Destroyer and forms are all correct. One bird has got its eye
pecked out. No. 1200 Blue Diver went down at 230am this monring. I
blieve they are going to float her again this afternoon. Capt.
Bacon is out here. H. Smith." Comes on a page with an unused Pigeon
service form 'Army Book 418' (2) printing on flimsy. In well
preserved and clean condition. Some apparent faults to the used
message and damage in places, as would be expected for such a
mailing, but remarkably legible. Rare; the only message in private
