of twelve marginal from left of sheet (positions 1-4 / 6-9 /
11-14), fresh and very fine, unused as issued. Scarce and most
attractive Gi = £ 1'080+.

1926: Inland Postage, the set of three values 2½ b. black on white
laid paper, 2½ b. on yellowish-orange laid paper and 5 b. black on
white laid paper; all in unused blocks of four, each with large
margins all round, each marginal from left of sheet. A fine set Gi
= £ 1'080+.

1926: 2½ b. black on orange vertically laid paper, imperforate, an
unused complete sheet of 20 subjects (5 x 4), with full sheet
margins all round, showing "BEST DUTCH MAKE" watermark, the sheet
in a very deep unusual shade with evidence of the colour having
been brushed onto the paper. Minor creases and tiny pinhole but a
remarkable and rare sheet, probably from an extremely early
printing as many of the normal frame flaws are unapparent. A rarity

of the Plate), fresh and very fine, horizontal crease between the

1926: Inland Postage, 2½ b. black on white unused, imperforate on
horizontally laid paper, a block of four (positions 13-14 / 18-19),
variety "5 bogaches value printed upright on reverse", good margins
all round both on the 2½ b. and on the 5 b. on reverse, without gum
as issued and surprisingly still unlisted by SG, this block most
probably represents the largest multiple now extant of this rare

this variety appear to have come from a block of 12 or 14 stamps
formerly belonging to Brigadier Glynn Grylls who stated in an
article in "The Philatelist" of August 1946 "the block is known to
have been purchased at Hodeida in the normal course of Post Office
business..." and in "Stamp Collecting" (February 1958) M.J. Moreton
writes "The rarity, which has the two 'on white' values one on each
side....(maybe) were from a waste sheet that got through, or was
inadveretently reversed, and was printed with the next block of
paper, i.e. the first sheet of the 5 b. value". There was very
little printer's waste in early Yemen adhesives. Provenance:

1947: Die Proof of the proposed 1 imadi value designed by Pierre
Munier, engraved in deep blue on sunked card (125 x 163 mm.). The
issue was abandoned as, in February 1948 the Sana'a Post Office was
looted and the new issue of stamps (a set of three depicting
Palaces) were stolen. The set remained unissued and was eventually
released to the philatelic trade. The Proofs, however, are scarce.
