datestamp on buff cover to Canton Miss., "Quartermasters Dept
Selma, Ala. S. Hillyer Maj. & Q.M. C.S.A." oval handstamp, "Dec"
straightline handstamp struck on arrival, original Oct. 30 letter
on Quartermaster's Office letterhead written by Edward Hillyer and
signed "Boy of Maj. S. Hillyer", missing top flap VERY FINE AND
EXTREMELY RARE. AN OUTSTANDING COMBINATION OF A BISECTED USE OF THE
20-CENT GREEN ISSUE ON A QUARTERMASTER'S DEPARTMENT SEMI-OFFICIAL
COVER. Examples of the 20c Green Issue used on Confederate
semi-official imprint or handstamped covers are uncommon. This
bisected use of the 20c on a semi-official handstamped cover is
almost surely unique. Accompanied by a 1934 letter from August
Dietz attesting to the authenticity of the bisect use. Ex

Apr. 7" integral-rate datestamp on small mourning envelope to
Middletown Conn., 1851 docketing also ties stamp, Very Fine and
rare use, the USPCS census of the 1847 Issue contains only 29
mourning covers among the 15,731 entries and of these only six bear
the 10c stamp (one of which is a bisect), ex Houser and Mirsky,
with 2000 P.F. certificate
