Red on White entire (U227) to San Francisco VERY FINE. AN EXTREMELY
RARE WELLS FARGO EXPRESS COVER WITH THE DRAGOON, ARIZONA TERRITORY,
STATION HANDSTAMP. BELIEVED TO BE THE ONLY EXAMPLE EXTANT, BUT NO
MORE THAN TWO REPORTED IN THOMAS BOOK. This cover was last sold in
April 2022 for $4,888 (with buyer’s premium), at which time it was
described as the only known example. The Thomas book reports “two
or fewer,” so it may well still be the only one extant. Power
Search failed to locate another among the many Arizona and Wells
Fargo covers we have sold. Ex Theobald, Springer and Drew.
