Oct. 15" (1849) circular datestamp on envelope to Richmond Va., with original enclosure datelined "Cambridge Oct. 15, 1849" and written and signed by Henry W. Longfellow, mentions death of Edgar Allen Poe (d. Oct. 7, 1849): "What a melancholy death is that of Mr. Poe, as one so widely imbued with genius! I never knew him personally, but have always entertained a high appreciation of his powers as a prose-writer and a poet. His prose is remarkably vigorous, direct and yet affluent, and his verse has a particular ? of melody", fresh and Very Fine, fascinating contents

ONLY FOUR ARE RECORDED. The USPCS census lists one unique 5c cover (offered in lot 1401) and four 10c covers from Arkansas. This is one of three from Little Rock. With 1999 P.F. certificate.
