apparently all different mint (some original gum)/unused no gum
widely varying shades from pale yellow-green through to blue green,
mainly roulette types, emanating from a high quality valuable
original collection, occasional light pencil manuscript to reverse.
Whilst we cannot guarantee that all example are mint, we can
confidently guarantee your money back provided the lot is returned
intact within thirty days of acquisition. Rarely (if ever) have we
been able to offer such a pretty selection of mint Wyon Head 1d.
green shades obviously with the potential to catalogue thousands of
pounds when allocated to printings/shades. Some faults naturally
because these stamps are rarely flawless … but just take a look - I

watermark crown CC (reversed), perf 12.5, lovely bright shade
example significantly well-cancelled by flattering '6' numeral of
Albany in blue. Research reveals this to be one of the finest
examples of this early British Empire 'bird' classic error of
colour, near perfectly centred too. History: apparently resulting
from the use of the wrong (2d.) plate during printing of a supply
of the Swan 6d. Value. The mistake was not noticed by De La Rue,
and an estimated 8-10 sheets were issued in January 1879, with
usage recorded at Perth and a few other offices including our
Albany cancelled example. So far as is known this was the only
occasion upon which DLR made such an error of printing Colonial
stamps of any country, if Tobago SG 24c is excluded. 1994 highly
respected PETER HOLCOMBE EXPERT colour photo-certificate
accompanies, plus provenance expert signed reverse. Peter states 'A
fine copy of a rare stamp'. We agree. CLASSIC SWAN Colour ERROR
doubtless missing from most BIRD's collections! One of the finest
examples extant. Holcombe Certificate. Exhibition Standard.
Previous sale of a different example some years ago, it is believed
a similar but inferior quality example realised near full current
SG catalogue value. LUXUS According to the record of The Royal
Philatelic Collection Curated by Sir John Wilson Bart (Dropmore
Published 1952) King Charles possesses one example of the Swan 1879
2d. ERROR OF COLOUR in MAUVE, however an image of the quality of
the Royal Collection stamp is not published. For reference, we have
included an example of the original perf 12½ 2d yellow – so you can

& tied to a clipped piece. Letter of provenance to a Mr Barnett,
believed to be K.M.A. Barnett O.B.E. (Post War Colonial Secretary).
Barnett, as the letter notes, received 'a pair of stamps' and a
5Fen banknote as a gift from a friend. The bank note accompanies

in selvedge N.E. u.m. full original gum. Minor wrinking, trimmed
selvedge S.E. David Brandon, Philatelic Expert of Brandon Galleries
presently offers the left-hand side of this remarkable sheet
described as UNIQUE and Magnificent. A REMARKABLE SHOWPIECE.
Brandon also offers an u.m. single at £275. Upon the single selling
price alone the x30 stamps command a retail value of up to
GBP£8,250=. Recognising the rarity but also presumably the intent
to keep his half sheet intact rather than be broken down for a
premium price Brandon Galleries offers their complete left half
sheet of x30 stamps for a more reasonable GBP£6,600=. There's no
better provenance than to view the matching sheet on-line now. TUT
offers the matching sheet number 431 sheet at £5,950= reducing but
with price-stop, how far will this drop. RARE RARE RARE (1 half
