1902 (June 2): AR registered envelope to St. Petersburg, Russia
franked on both sides with a combination of 16 stamps, on back 1895
5 p. green, strip of three 10 p. blue, 25 p. maroon, also
overprinted in red 5 p. green, overprinted in black 25 p. maroon,
pair of 2 re. gray, on front with pair of 20 ch. red-brown, two 15
ch. gray-violet, 5 ch. pink, 6 ch. blue and 10 ch. purple, all tied
by "SEOUL / COREE" departure cds, front bears registration
handstamp and framed 'A R', reverse with SHANGHAI transit (June 12)
and St. PETERSBURG arrival (July 8, julian). A couple of light
stains not detracting from a remarkable cover. Provenance:

with similar franking, both with some minor toning spots, a scarce
duo

Korea) to Luca, postcard depicting a color-tinted view of the
harbor at Cemulpo, bearing 2 centesimi red tied by bold violet
straight-line naval postmark R NAVE LOMBARDIA 26.01.08 ?,
additional circular handstamp in matching violet, handwritten
message dated Cemulpo 12.10.908, addressed to Signorina Margherita
in Luca, extremely rare usage of Italian naval mail from East Asia
during the pre-WWI period, part of Italy’s limited but symbolically
significant naval presence in the Far East, carried via Italian
cruiser mail system, combining early maritime postal history with
Italian diplomatic and naval projection abroad, Ex Kugel, VF!

endorsed “Via Nagasaki & Vancouver” franked with pairs of Russia 7
k. blue and 3 k. rose (Michel 31A+33A), posted on board of the ship
and landed at the Korean port of Gensan, tied with two red “GENSAN
/ I.J.P.O” cds with framed “PAQUEBOT” handstamp in the same ink at
lower left. On reverse transits of NAGASAKI (May 8), YOKOHAMA (May
17) and SAN FRANCISCO (June 1) and arrival cds (June 9). The
earliest usage at Gensan of Paquebot covers with Russian stamps, a
fine and attractive Shipmail item. Provenance: Collection Mizuhara;

1.1.03’ arrival. Also bears a German TPO R-label ‘From foreign via
railway mail p.o. 10 Verviers-Cologne’. Remarkable commercial usage
of the 50ch. plum blossom. Unreported item, from old Danish family
correspondence, wrapper with some faults

registration label tied in transit in Liverpool (May 4) some faults
but rare cover; Japan 1½ s. pale blue stationery card used to
England tied by bold "SEOUL / I.J.P & T.O" cds in black (Nov 24,
1904) and taxed "1" penny due; and 1906 Japan 4 s. purple-brown
stationery card used to England cancelled "SEOUL / KOREA" cds in
violet. A scarce trio.
