to Captain Sanpher of the "S.S. Alnwick" care of the British Consul
in Tandjong, Java, Netherlands Indies, tied by "Newcastle on Tyne"
squared circle datestamp (Jan 19). Much readdressed - receiving 25
postal markings including notations to "Diamond Island"; reverse
showing Weltvreden, Soerabaja, Batavia, Colombo, Tuticorin,
Bassein, Rangoon, Port Said datestamps amongst others and
eventually returned to sender in Stapledon.

cover to Skagway, Alaska tied by Wirksworth squared circle
datestamp (July 20). Endorsed "Please forward" with Skagway arrival
cds on reverse (Aug 9) and struck with "UNCLAIMED / ADVERTISED /SEP
8 1900 / SKAGWAY, ALASKA" in violet. Flap missing and some minor
closed tears to envelope but a very rare destination at this date.

wonderful entire with printed notice headlined "Youth Missing" and
details on broadsheet bearing 1841 1 d. red; 1853 cover with full
illustrated red and blue advertising for Norwich Union Life
Assurance Soc. bearing 1841 1 d. red; 1854 entire letter with 1841
1 d. red from Leeds showing "Prize Medal 1851 / Class XVI" green
and red illustrated imprint of the "Spanish Leather & Glue Works",
an early coloured motif; 1863 cover bearing 1 d. star showing blue
printed "Worth's Improved Knife Machine" illustration; 1864 cover
with printed "The Alliance National Investment Soc." Arms in black;
1868 unused envelope with gold "Bonelli's Electric Telegraph Co.
Ltd. / Telegram Immediate" on obverse (the Company was bought out
by the Post Office); 1871 cover franked 1 d. red pl. 123 used from
Nottingham and advertising on reverse for a "Patterns" in blue by
J.W. Haythorn of Nottingham; 1874 cover bearing 1 d. red pl. 137
with envelope printed in green for "Thomas Gee & Co. / City Match
Manufactory" of Gloucester; 1882 cover franked 1 d. lilac with
envelope showing printed "William's Alethographic Shorthand"
advertising on obverse and reverse; 1890 ½ d. brown stationery card
with "Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Co." illustrated
advertising on reverse (Dobbin Carts & Wheel-barrows) cancelled by
Gloucester squared circle; a marvelllous lot.

Duke of York (later King George V) tied by "Kings Lynn" squared circle datestamp (July24) in black. The contents on York Cottage embossed writing paper written by George whilston his honeymoon at Sandringham, Norfolk. Full transcript ewnclosed. The envelope bears the "G“ cypher in the lower left hand corner. Fine and most attractive.

red, もっと見る 1852/80: Most interesting Selection four covers incl. 1852 1 d. red, lettered AI, alphabet II, cut into right side, large margin below and part of BI, used on registered envelope with 1854 6 d. violet, embossed, just touching top, otherwise good margins all round which is unusual on this value, sent from Burton-on-Trent to Macclesfield, dated 15 November 1854, tied by a heavy single strike of the English '152' oval in black, with a green Burton-on-Trent datestamp alongside. To the reverse a Macclesfield arrival datestamp in green (6 November 1854). The 1 d. rate for up to ½ oz. and the 6 d. for the registration fee. A fine and rare cover. Note: The 6 d. embossed issue coincided with the official issue of the 1 d. red perforated stamps. Mixed frankings with the imperforate 1 d. red are very rare. Only 5 examples recorded and illustrated in Great Britain Victorian Mixed Franking Covers, by Ray Simpson & Karl Louis on pg. 126. Then, 1854 two registered covers franked with embossed 6 d. lilac, used in combination with two 2 d. blue plate 4, perf. 16, sent from London to Macclesfield, both embossed cut into, heavy filing creases through stamps and soiled, however a scarce franking and a useful duo. Also 1880 2½ d. blue, plate 23, in combination with 1884 2 d. lilac and 1884 ½ d. slate-blue, used on cover from London to Turin, Italy, dated 5 May 1884, tied by London squared circle handstamp in black. To the reverse a faint arrival in black (7 May 1884). There is a central horizontal filing crease well clear of the adhesives. A rare example. Only recorded example of this 5d rate combination franking illustrated in Great Britain Victorian Mixed Franking Covers, by Ray Simpson & Karl Louis on pg. 208
