newspaper wrapper addressed to Sven Hedin in Urumchi (with Chinese
address below) bearing second Peking print 1c. pair tied by Peiping
English/Chinese c.d.s. and bearing, on the reverse, two strikes of
Tihwa c.d.s. (5.11) and (19.11); part of the front has been
excised. Pays 2c. international newspaper rate; the addressee, Xu
Xushing was a Chinese leader of the North-West Expedition. (2

Incoming Mail via Pacific Ocean 1876 (July 13): Mourning cover from
Christiansted, Danish West Indies to Sydney, New South Wales
bearing 1873 Great Britain 3 d. rose, pl. 18 and 1864 1 d. red
boldly cancelled by the St. Thomas “C51” duplex and prepaying 4 d.
plus 1 s. in cash for a 1⁄2 ounce ship letter to New South Wales.
Manuscript “1/-” in black representing the prepayment in cash and
with Sydney arrival on reverse. The rear flap torn on opening just
affecting the top of the cover but not affecting the adhesive. A
charming and delightful cover of great rarity. The only cover
recorded from the Danish West Indies to the Australian Colonies.
Route: Departed Christiansted 13 July 1876 by steamer to St. Thomas
(14 July). Royal Mail Steam Packet Co: Departed St. Thomas (16
July) per “Para” via Jacmel (19 July), Kingston (20 July) to Colon
(24 July); overland to Panama (9 Aug); by steamer to San Francisco.
Pacific Mail Steamship Co: Departed San Francisco (13 Sept) per
“City of NewYork” to Fiji (4 Oct); “Australia” (4 Oct) via Auckland

cancel もっと見る (68,DWI 2) 1866 3c rose Danish West Indies tied by bold target cancel with matching Christiansted cds at center used in combination with 1861 10c green Washington tied by "New York Steamship" cds on cover to Rochester, New York. The cover originated in Christiansted, St. Croix, Danish West Indies (January 23, 1867 docketing at left), where the 3c D.W.I stamp was applied together with the 10c 1861 Issue to prepay internal carriage and steamship transmission to the United States.
Skilled restoration around the postage franking, but still an exceedingly scarce mixed franking from the Danish West Indies showing use in combination with a U.S. stamp prior to the establishment of formal postal agreements.
Signed Diena, with 2025 Philatelic Foundation certificate stating "it is a genuine use"

1901 incoming cover from Denmark to Gotthard Christensen of the
Scandinavian Corps, with a 4 and two 8 Ore cancelled Nakskov FE 01.
The cover was censored on arrival in St Helena. The Scandinavian
Corps was formed in Pretoria on 12 October 1899, the day after war
was declared. Officers and NCO’s of the various Scandinavian
nationals were elected and Christensen was elected Sergeant of the
Danish Troop. He, along with 47 members of the Scandinavian Corps,
was captured at Paardeberg with General Cronje on 27 February 1900.
An exceptionally rare incoming cover to a member of the Danish
Contingent – much rarer than outgoing

cancel on folded letter datelined St. Lucia, December 10, 1868,
addressed to New York City. The letter was carried privately to St.
Thomas, Danish West Indies, where it was forwarded into the U.S.
mails by James T. Abbott & Co., indicated by large blue oval
“Forwarded By / James T. Abbott & Co. / St. Thomas W.I.” handstamp
at left and “N. York Steamship Dec 23 (1868)” cds at center applied
upon arrival into New York City. The 10c U.S. franking paid the
standard incoming rate from the D.W.I. to the United States. The
letter was carried by American steamship service from St. Thomas to
New York under the mail contract of the time.
The 10c stamp is affected by file fold but still fine and scarce forwarded Trans-Caribbean usage, representing a classic inbound steamship rate from the West Indies during the 1861-68 issue era

1885/96: Group of five postage due covers, two incoming from
overseas, one outbound to UK and two circulated domestically.
Noted; 1896, envelope sent from India franked with USA Grant 5 cent
chocolate (Scott 223) tied by “BASSEIN” local cds with Rangoon and
Sea Post on reverse, sent to New York, charged “5 CENTS” and 1884,
5 cents bright claret postage due tied to flap. Also, inbound
stampless cover from Norway to South Norwalk, USA, with Copenhagen
transit and postage due applied and Jefferson 1882, 10 cents brown.
Two interesting examples, which come with two which feature “HELD
FOR POSTAGE” marks. Some faults.

Victoria to Gothenburg, Sweden bearing 1854 Victoria Woodblock 6 d.
dull orange, single and horizontal pair, each with good to large
margins and 1857 Emblem 2 d. pale lilac, touched at left, cancelled
by barred numeral “1” of Melbourne, prepaying 1 s. 8 d. for a ½
ounce ship letter to Sweden. Manuscript “32” (skilling) at left and
italic “36s BCO” handstamp in black for ship letter inwards fees to
be paid by the recipient. Some minor blemishes and pressed filing
crease, however very rare, being the third earliest cover recorded
from Victoria to Sweden. Illustrated in colour in “The Pre-UPU
Destination Mail of Victoria” by Ben Palmer on Colour Plate 12.
Route - European and Australian Royal Mail Co: Departed Melbourne
19 June 1857 per “European” via Galle (23 July) to Suez (14 Aug);
overland to Alexandria. P&O Line: “Vectis” (21 Aug) via Malta
(24 Aug) to Marseilles; by steamer via Hamburg (30 Aug) 1857 to
