sizeable holding housed in one carton across ten volumes, featuring
seven volumes of stamps and covers alongside three volumes of
postcards; the stamp material includes one volume of Australian
stamps and ephemera, a mixed Australia and New Zealand volume, and
a specialized volume of New Zealand issues (1880s–1980s) all used
and neatly mounted on quadrilled pages, complemented by a stockbook
of collector’s duplicates. The postcard section consists of two
binders of Australian and one binder of New Zealand lighthouse
cards, which are predominantly post-1960s but include some earlier
examples, while the stamps are mainly mint unused with some used

tied by Ottawa c.d.s. (1 Feb), unaddressed, the reverse signed in
full “With the compliments of / W. Mulock / Postmaster General of
Canada / Ottawa, 1st February 1899,” crease far removed from
handwriting and stamp, a most attractive and highly desirable
Map-era item, signed during Mulock’s tenure as Postmaster General.
Born in 1843 at Bond Head, Canada West, William Mulock was
appointed Postmaster General in 1896 by Wilfrid Laurier, overseeing
the introduction of the celebrated 1898 Map stamp before later
serving as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ontario; an
historically resonant autograph card from one of the key figures in
Canadian postal history.
