1885: Stationery post card surcharge “10 cents.” on 2 cents violet,
uprated with 1885 “REVENUE AND POSTAGE 5 cents” on 8 cents lilac
and 1888/90 2 cents on 4 cents rose, of fresh colour and good
perforations, tied by "A" in upright oval, with “COLOMBO REGISTERED
DE 10 95” cds with “R” in oval, sent to Leipzig, Germany. Fine and
attractive. Additionally, comes with a registered cover franked
with 1887, 1 rupee 12 cents rose on blued paper (SG 201), fresh and
fine, to Marseilles dated 4 OCT 94. Vertical fold well clear of

1892: Oil Rivers stationery postal card 1 penny vermilion, in
combination with Great Britain 1892, 1 penny lilac horizontal pair,
overprinted BRITISH PROTECTORATE OIL RIVERS in black, strong colour
and good perforations, tied by cds “OLD CALABAR RIVERS DE 20 92”
sent to Hamburg, Germany, endorsed “Registered” and addressed in
pencil, with boxed “POSTED OUT/ OF COURSE” in black, together with
transits “PAID/LIVERPOOL/BR. PACKET/17 JA 92” in red and
“REGISTERED LONDON 17 JA 92” oval in black. Reverse, arrival cds
“HAMBURG 8. 19/1 93”. Fine and rare. Note: Correctly franked, but
not properly brought to the counter for registration; nonetheless
treated as registered mail, as per UPU rules. Reference: The Postal

1884: Stamp Duty revenue 5 shilling claret, good colour and
perforations mainly fine, tied by duplex “VICTORIA MELBOURNE NO 22
89” to a commercial large format envelope sent to Hamburg, Germany,
endorsed “Via Naples”. Reverse, transit cds “BAHNPOST” date
indistinct and arrival “HAMBURG 8 12 89”. Vertical filing creases
well clear of adhesive, some small tears. Fine and scarce high
value franking. Revenue stamps are not common used as postage.

1891: Stationery postal card overprinted in red “1½ ” and
“UNIVERSAL POSTAL UNION” on 1 penny violet on buff, plus the same
on the reply card, used with duplex “239 NORTH MELBOURNE VIC. AP 12
92” sent to Striegau, Germany (now part of Poland) and with reply
card attached which has been used and returned from Striegau,
Germany to Melbourne, Australia, used with black cds “STRIEGAU 23 5
92”. Stained. Scarce; both parts properly used and intact. (H&G
