Postal Routes to Norway; 1870 (June): Envelope despatched on ship
from Kiel to Christiania, bearing pair 1864 oval type 4 sk. red
comb perf. 13x12½ (AFA 13 / Facit 13), a fresh multiple in a deep
vivid shade with perforation imperfections due to the position at
the cover's edge, at the same time showing perforation variety:
broken needle on the right adhesive, cancelled upon arrival at the
border office by "SANDØSUND 2/6 1870" cds, "CHRA BYP." (Christiania
Bypost) arrival cds of the following day alongside. A great looking
cover with a rare Norwegian cancellation on the Danish stamps,
showing the 8 skilling rate to Norway for letters up to 15 gram in
force between 1 July 1869 and 31 December 1873, cert. Nielsen
(1986).
