British Protectorate 1815-1864 1845 (Jan 22): Entire letter from
Zante to Athens with circular "♚ / PAID AT ZANTE" in blue with
prepaid rate "5" (pence) in red manuscript and circular "POSTA
PAGATA" manuscript "2" (pence) prepaid, struck with oval "Overseas"
handstamp in black and reverse with both Patras (Jan 25) and Athens
arrival datestamps. Scarce Gi = £ 1'400.

upon arrival in manuscript. A fine and rare entire. Provenance:

in black on 1831 entire to Pyrgos, 1835 CEFALONIA datestamp in
black used as arrival fon entire from Zante, 1841 entire with faint
CERIGO in black, 1839 and 1844 covers with with CORFU in black;
1842 entire with ZANTE used via Patras to Athens, 1846 entire with
fine English with CEFALONIA in black, 1849 entires (2) with CORFU
in black, 1851/52 entires (2) with ZANTE struck in blue, 1857/60
entires with STA. MAURA in blue, 1860 cover with PAXO in blue and
1860/62 entires (2) with Greek CEFALONIA in blue; generally fine to

and 1829 entire letter to Kontoyannata, Cefalaonia struck with
circular "ISOLA DI SANTA MAURA" in black and hooded "STA. MAURA"
datestamp in black (July 24) rated in manuscrtipt at top "D2". A
fine and unusual pair

Paxos with fair only large oval Coat of Arms "OFFICIO DELLA POSTA
GENERALE / CORFU" in black and hooded datestamp of despatch; struck
on arrival with hooded "PAXO" datestamp (June 23) well struck in
red - one of only two recorded examples thus, the other being dated
May 17, 1829. Rare and most elusive. Cert. Simmermacher (2011).

in Corfu addressed to Milan, struck with framed italic "Gherardini
Pagate. Divifs. / della truppa Itale. in Corfu" in blue, circular
"POSTA SETTINSULARE / CORFU" well struck in blue and framed "3a.
Tassa" struck in red. Receipted handstamp in red internally, a
splendid entire with superb strikes: just two examples are

Hooded "CORFU" in black on reverse and the cover sent unpaid on
British ship with London transit (May 11) and charged "3/10d." due
to pay, with faint "Seebrief" entry marking and Brussels arrival
(May 13) in blue and charged "59" décimes due on receipt. Believed
to be the sole cover to or from Belgium and the Ionian Islands in
