Postal routes to Greece; 1872 (March 15): Envelope from Kolding to
Athens, bearing 1870 bi-coloured 2 sk. blue & grey print 5 and 4
sk. print 5 or 6 red & grey, a single example and two pairs (AFA
20+22), typical perforation, one pair with corner fault, tied by
‘36’ numeral, matching KOLDING despatch cds and "P.D." handstamp
alongside. Reverse with "VAMDRUP - HAMBURG" T.P.O., oval TRIEST
transit, and ATHENS arrival (March 11, julian) cds's. Overpaid by 1
skilling in the 21 sk. rate in force from 11 March 1868 to 31 Dec
1874. One of only four recorded Danish skilling letters to Greece
of which three show the 21 sk. rate, cert. Nielsen (1999). Note:
Directed to George I (1845 - 1913), King of Greece from 1863,
originally a Danish prince born in Copenhagen. Provenance:
