Georgetown, bearing 1860 perf 12 8c. brownish red bisected
diagonally and clearly tied by "b.g./a1c" c.d.s. with another clear
strike on face and, on reverse, mainly clear Demerara arrival
datestamp (12.11); an extremely light horizontal crease crosses the
adhesives and in no way detracts from superb appearance. One of the
finest bisect covers known. Illustrated in Townsend and Howe's book

overpayment of the 2½ d. rate by ½ d. File fold away from the
adhesive, some overall soiling but a rare and most attractive usage

Nova Scotia 1851–60 6d yellow-green (S.G. 5a), diagonal bisect
used provisionally to pay the 3d domestic rate, tied by mute oval
grid cancel to envelope addressed to Edw. Ansell Esq., King’s
Coll., Windsor, N.S. The bisected stamp boasts close to strong and
large margins. The reverse shows a legible Upper Musquodoboit
dispatch cancel dated May 1859, confirming its origin in the
Musquodoboit Valley, east of Halifax. Additionally, as well as an
arrival backstamp cancel. ÂRed wax seal on flap..
With Royal Philatelic Society London photo certificate. Estimated value £1,000–1,500.
A comparable bisect cover (Feb. 1860, tied by oval grid cancel, with transit and arrival backstamps) realised £1,000 at Spink. SG £5,000 on cover
