Austrian Lloyd Agency in Beirut 1873 (March 24): Entire letter from
Beirut to Netstall, Switzerland, bearing an attractive four-colour
franking of 1867 Coarse Whiskers 2 so yellow, 3 so green, 5 so red,
and 10 so blue, tied by decent “BERUTTI 24 / 3” cds (Tranmer fig.
3) in black, reverse with oval TRIEST transit and circular
“NETTSTAL 6 IV 73” arrival datestamps in black. An attractive and
rare franking, signed Pfenninger, cert. E. Diena (1983)

cds in black (Tranmer fig 3), "P.D." alongside. Reverse with oval
TRIEST transit datestamp and GENOVA arrival (Nov 16) cds. An
appealing cover. Note: In 1871 the Italy rate was further reduced
from 25 to 23 soldi.

via Alexandria to Cairo, Egypt, bearing a pair 1874 Fine Whiskers
10 so blue, tied by “BEIRUTH 10 / 10 83” cds (Tranmer fig. G) in
black, "RACOM." handstamp and "ALEXANDRIE RECOMMANDÉE" alongside,
reverse with thimble ALEXANDRIEN transit and "CAIRO RECOMMANDÉES.
ARRIVÉE” arrival (Oct 25) cds's, both in black. Cover roughly
opened on reverse, nevertheless an attractive franking.

Coarse Whiskers 15 so brown (2), tied by decent “BERUTTI 22 / 11”
cds (Tranmer fig. 3) in black, reverse with oval TRIEST transit
datestamp and ZITTAU arrival cds (Dec 7), both in black. Tear into
the reverse, nevertheless an appealing cover to an unusual
destination.

brown used on cover to Livorno endorsed 'Vap. Diretto', tied by
ALEXANDRIEN cds (12/2) in black with blue 'P.D.' However, the cover
was disembarked at Gallipoli (Feb 16) and thus was also struck with
two line AFFRANCATURA / INSUFFICIENTE in black for the extra charge
between Gallipoli and Livorno. Fresh and fine cover
