Schuyler Rumsey 102nd Auction - The Gary Munson Collection of Hawaii
The Gary Munson collection of Hawaii Stamps and Postal History highlighted by five Hawaiian Missionary Issue stamps, important Numerals on and off cover, U.S.-Hawaii combination frankings, rare 1893 Overprint errors, and featuring specimens, plate and die proofs, cancels and much more.
Gary Edward Munson was born May 21, 1957 in Fullerton, California and a lifelong California native. He graduated from UCLA and went on to be Vice President of several banks. He was owner and controller of an aluminum company in Paramount CA until his passing in 2021. He was a collector of many unique items, in particular Hawaiian stamps as well as classic literature and original artwork specializing in horror and fantasy, boasting a broad range of items from the sixteenth to twentieth centuries.
Highlights included an 1818 triple-decker first edition of the Gothic classic, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, as well as a first edition and the first pirated edition of John William Polidori’s The Vampyre, both copies published in 1819.
