The 'Manhattan' collection is the finest ever formed of this remote region of China. Opening with 49 covers from the Russian Post Office including the legendary cover from Urumchi, plus many important frankings and postmarks including rare postal stationery and Romanov issues. The Chinese Post Offices commence with an astonishing group of C.I.P. covers which includes some rare and important covers. The Republic era begins with three examples of the rare Yili Provisional, the only two recorded Wen Pao Chu covers and several others from this important era. A wide range of covers overprinted for use only in Sinkiang demonstrate the changing postage rates with registered and international mail, air mail and postal stationery. There are several important inflation period covers, Liberated Areas and through to People's Post. With many lots modestly priced, this sale offers a wonderful opportunity to delve into this under-studied area of Chinese philately.
