Assembled by Barry P. Fletcher carefully over the course of many years, his collection of the Air Post issues of Colombia is one of the most comprehensive ever to appear on the auction market. It is replete with iconic rarities, many of which formed the cornerstones of such famous collections as Peinado, Gebauer, Goeggel, Johnson, among many others – several of which are unique or with few known to exist. Mr. Fletcher also authored an exceptional book: “A Collectors Notes and Comments on the Rare and Mysterious Colombian Airmails, 1919-1923” which accurately details the true scarcity of stamps and covers from this fascinating period of aviation history in South America. Early Colombian air post stamps – and their corresponding usage on flight covers – are among the most “classic”, and beautiful, of any issued throughout the world.
