This Sale 228 offers over 1000 lots starting with Sporting Memorabilia highlighted by the collection of Cricketers’ autographs formed over many years by Don Wigan of Launceston, Tasmania. Many signatures are on Picture Postcards and Photographs, which are wonderful collectables in their own right. Many other sports are represented, with the other major section being Australian Rules Football, capped off by the 1939 Premiership Medal awarded to Jack Mueller of Melbourne.
The Coins & Banknotes section begins with Worldwide material before launching into 500+ lots of Australia commencing with an 1855 Taylor Pattern Sixpence. The extensive Australian Gold section features three ‘Adelaide Pounds’ including a Type I as well as over one hundred high-grade Sovereigns from the 1855 Sydney Mint Type I through to George V, interspersed with similarly high-grade Copper and Silver from Half-Pennies to Florins. The Australian Banknotes section includes scarce Decimal ‘Specimen’ notes as well as Pre-Decimal and Decimal ‘Star’ notes topped off by a £5 Million Serial ‘TC/12 100000*’.
