STAMPS, POSTAL HISTORY & PICTURE POSTCARDS AUCTION – SATURDAY 1 SEPTEMBER
Australia: some outstanding and unusual stamps, a fine offering of postal stationery, and many thousands of covers, from rare single items to large and bulky accumulations.
Australian Colonies / States: extensive sections of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania mostly from the ‘Novocastrian’ Collection. All sections include rare stamps and numerous single-issue studies that offer potential for further development or re-sale. Also featured here are a lovely collection of the NSW Centennial Issue, and Tony Presgrave’s South Australian Surcharges. The Victorian section includes Ultra-High Denominations with a mint £25 and ‘Specimen’ stamps, the balance of Max Watson’s Barred Numerals, and a high-quality collection of 20th Century datestamps.
Rest of the World: miscellaneous lots and collections, very fine British West Africa, high-quality Europe, desirable Papua, never-before-offered Malaya and Thailand, and interesting United States. The stand-out section is the late John Bell’s “Pre-Stamp Postal History of Portugal”, the first time for many years that a serious pre-stamp collection from any of the European nations has been offered in Australia.

Abacus charges a Buyer’s Premium of 19.8% which is added to the Hammer Price of each lot sold.
