Karamitsos auction No.614 presents 262 Large Hermes Heads lots from the famous and multi- awarded Wolfgang Bauer Collection, one of the most important Greek collections all over the world.
In this auction the first part of the collection is presented. The collection was built up in an over forty years period and in the process, not only important to Greek philately items but also deep knowledge was acquired. Covering the first period of the Large Hermes Heads stamps up to 1867 with emphasis in the Paris print and the Provisional Athens issues, the collection describes all the magic of Greece first issues.
There are many important lots and great rarities in the collection, such as lot No.1 the famous die proof which has been the Lunder Edelman 1929 Ferrari auction cover, lot 72 including 4 copies of the bistre on straw 2 lepta Provisional rare stamp! lot 114 1 lepton chocolate Provisional in mint bl.4! lot 193 10 lepta salmon on blue 1862/67 extremely rare stamp, lots 69, 70 and 71 with 20 lepta Provisionals without control number, a very important world rarity, amazing LHH covers as lots 61, 62, 65, 67, 153, 154, 155 and of course lots 249-262, lot 48 20l. Patras blue on cover, lot 166 5l. 1862/67 stamp in used bl.8 – the largest known unit, lot 180 10 lepta salmon 1862/67 stamp in superb quality, many scarce/rare stamps in superb quality, blocks and strips and Control Number errors as well.
