The auction house Dr. Reinhard Fischer in Bonn will hold its 194th auction on September 29, 2023. Our 194th auction includes over 7,300 lots with a large variety of rarities and highlights in the area of philately.
The German States are particularly well represented with classics such as three One Kreuzer Black („Schwarzer Einser“) in mint and used condition, a centrically cancelled superb lower margin copy of the Sachsen 3 Pfennige red („Sachsen Dreier“) MiNo. 1a (starting price €9,000.-) and the „70 Kreuzer“ of Wurttemberg as a used pair (MiNo. 42a, starting price €8,000.-). Aside from the classics, rarities in the area of Bavarian postage due stamps are put on auction. The so-called „Osterhofen-Provisorium“, a 10 Pfg postage due stamp that was bisected due to a lack of 5 Pfg values, has only been found on two covers, one of which has been missing for decades. The only available letter with the MiNr. 6H will be offered at a starting price of €15,000.-. A rare variety of also the 10 Pfennig value of the next issue is offered. Only a few values accidentally remained without overprint. The only known pair of the MiNo. 9F which previously adorned the Sessler collection is offered at a starting price of €20,000.-. Twenty 3 Pfg copies of the last issue were produced with inverted overprint. The only copy in flawless condition of the three known covers MiNo. 10x K is offered at a starting price of €10.000.-.
One highlight is the piece of cover of the air mail issue „Gelber Hund“ from the German Reich. It was franked with a stamp with double overprint in yellow and blue (MiNo. IV DD). The overprint of air mal stamps was originally yellow. However, the yellow overprint was difficult to distinguish so the overprint in blue was added. The first 100 values, which had already been overprinted, were overprinted again. Only 34 copies of these double overprints are known (starting price €6.000.-). Lot 1945 presents a rare opportunity: All four “Reichspost” mark values with the never issued overprint of the German post offices in China in a bolder font with a comma-shaped dot over the ‘i’ (MiNo. VIIk/VIIn) in flawless MNH condition are offered as a set for €5,000.-. A mint copy of the 3 M German Reich with “Sarre” overprint in very fine condition is offered at a starting With the overprint plate flaw III it is a unique copy. Only a single 20 stamp sheet was produced. The extensive Alexanderstadt (Velyka Oleksandrivka) offer includes the 3 R on 1 Ruble postage stamp with inverted overprint (MiNo. 12III K). One of three known mint values starts at €12,000.-, an immaculate stamp on a piece of cover starts with a minimum bid of €8,000.-. A vertical type pair of the 50 K stamp from Sarny (MiNo. 1B), including the unique type VIII, immaculately used on a piece of cover, is offered at a starting price of €15,000.-. A great rarity of the post-war philately is the tax stamp “Notopfer Berlin” from the bizone [compulsory tax stamp on internal West German mail to support West Berlin], which was printed on light chrome yellow paper without watermark in the Wegener printing plant in Alfeld (MiNo. 1X). Only a single sheet with this printing error left the printing plant and was sold in Göttingen. The piece is in perfect condition and has a new certificate by the BPP (starting price €3,000.-). An extensive high-quality Classical Austria and 1st and 2nd Republic offer might spark the interest of collectors of non-German territories. It includes spectacular pieces such as the first issue 9 kreuzer light blue on machine-made paper with complete Andreas cross label in very fine condition (MiNo. 5Y, starting price €7,500.-). Aside from that, one of the “Moon Covers” from the 100 series from the Apollo 15 mission with autographs of all three astronauts and notarial certification will go under the hammer (minimum bid €10,000.-).
The collections present many opportunities for collectors and resellers alike. Almost all of the nearly 800 lots are from collectors. Countless estates are offered in their original untouched condition without any item selected previously. There is something for everyone, from countless country collections such as an outstanding Japan collection with almost all sought-after values from the 20th century as well as countless miniature sheet issues (starting price €3,500.-) to over 60 “treasure troves and remainders”.
